Advocate
Discussing and communicating with others about your health can be complicated at times. It is very common for patients dealing with chronic disease to not be believed. Oftentimes doctors will gaslight their patients unknowingly which can be harsh, defeating and confusing. Many people find that families are not supportive of them in their healing crisis because there is a cognitive dissent that happens where their family just doesn't believe they are sick. It is sadly not uncommon for a person suffering with chronic illness to be made to feel that they're crazy, or even worse, for them to be told by those around them that they are crazy and the thing they know is making them sick just isn’t. It is important to learn when and how to communicate with people like this. Even with doctors, friends and family who do believe you it is necessary to learn to share your information in a way that an outside person who has never experienced your symptoms and pain can understand. In an advocate appointment I will compile resources to support your experiences and show the validity in what you’re experiencing. Whether it’s coaching you how to communicate, suggesting testing to confirm and prove your symptoms or compiling research and scholarly articles for you, I will assist you in advocating for your health and healing.
